Steppe Eco Camp has been established since 2007 at the initiative of local community and has been actively operated since 2009 through the expanding its business activities with the financial support of Active Adventure Tours Mongolia LLC .
The Steppe Eco Camp is located in the eastern region of Mongolia and/or at the junction of the eastern verge of Khentii mountain range (continuation of Siberian Taiga) and the Khurkh vast steppe in the west of the Dornod Mongol great steppe, which is combination of unique natural beauties of the homeland of Chinggis Khaan.
When run our business, we aim to operate without causing negative impacts to the environment, to support and empower local culture and to create additional income for the benefit of local community. And we annually implement some small scale projects jointly with the local government in accordance with certain plans for local development.

Binder Ovoo (4 km)
Binder Ovoo (ovoo- means cairn), a shamanistic stone monument of great significance, which represents offerings to the spirits of the land and area. It is believed that the Binder Ovoo existed since the times of Chinggis Khaan.
The tradition of respecting the ‘ovoo’ has deep roots in the history of the Mongolian nomads. There is deer stones of pre bronze and iron ages 2 km of northway from the Binder ovoo.
Rashaan Khad historical heritage site (6km)
Situated in forest-and-steppe zone, Rashaan Khad area has attracted ancient nomadic herdsmen with its abundant forest and pasture resources. The presence of rich finds of stone tools of Paleolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic era, as well as, numerous rock inscriptions, deer stones of pre bronze and iron ages, and tombs of Khunnu and Kidan nobles clearly shows that Rashaan Khad area has been the very cradle of culture and civilization of Eastern Mongolia. Various pieces of pottery and crafts are still largely found in this area. Cliffs in surrounding area bear hundreds of images of animals, men, stamps of various clans, and writings of Orkhon, Enisey, Kidan, Arab, Persian, Mongolian, and Tibetan residents. Dwellers of Rashaan Khad habitat had made various stone tools and hunted wild ass, mammoth, and wooly rhinoceros, which all are depicted in their rock paintings. Rashaan Khad produces a small spring that locals revere as eye curing. Rashaan Khad also represents an important energy field and has been an important meditation refuge. Numerous nomads inhabit around the Rashaan Khad and this valley is also an important stop over for the water birds.
Uglugch Wall – Ikhsiin Gazar (12 km)
The Uglugch Wall is located 12 km north west of the Steppe eco camp. Uglugch Wall is a stone-wall of historic significance, which was built by the natural stones and without using concrete or clay. The wall is situated in the territory of Batshireet soum of Khentii province. It was built on the slope of the Daichin Uul forested mountain. Uglugch Wall has heights in various sections of 2- 4m and width of 3m. The wall had two entrances in the southern sections of 3 km each. There are no signs or traces of any buildings in the inner side of the fortress. But a stone stele located inside is referred to as Chinggis Khaans’ horse tying pole. The complex is one of the main heritages of Mongol civilization and dates to XII – XIV century Kidan period.
Khurkh steppe (5- 10 km)
Wide open Khurkh valley is heaven for horses. From long ago till present it has been a homeland of horses.

Temujin and Jamuha got together and set up camp in the Qorqonaq Jubur.remembering how earlier on they became sworn friends, they said, “Let us renew once more our mutual pledge of friendship”. There they exchanged golden belts each other declared themselves friends by oath for the third time. Then they enjoyed themselves reveling and feasting.

Chinggis Khaan Statue (54 km)
“Chinggis khan statue complex” is located 54 km from Ulaanbaatar, beautiful natural scenery on the bank of river Tuul, in the place called “Tsonjin Boldog”, memorial place connected with historic events. The statue in total is 40m high from surface erected at about 10 m high foundation and surrounded by columns. Far sighted Chinggis Khaan holds a golden whip in his right hand. Recreation area, restaurants and souvenir shops will be located in the column surrounded base of the Statue and from here visitors will ascend to the exhibition hall using elevator at the back of the horse. The visitors will walk to the head of the horse through chest and back neck of the horse, where they can have farseeing and good panorama view over the complex area.
13th century national park (96 km)
“13th Century National Park” is located in Erdene soum, Yol mountain 96km from Ulaanbaatar. The goal of “13th century” national park is build and establish real-time micro kingdom to make the lively feeling for its guests during their stay by genuinely providing true environment of the way of living and working of the 13th century.
Khar Zurkhnii Khukh Nuur (142 km)
This place is famous for proclaiming of Temuujun as a Khaan of all Mongolian tribe in 1189.

Huduu Aral historical place
Huduu Aral is a historical place where Aurug or Palace was situated. In 1240, “The The Secret History of Mongols” -the most important literary and historical work of Mongols from the ancient times-was completed at Aurug, where the Palace of Chinggis Khaan was. The 750 anniversary of this great historical work was held at Huduu Aral in 1990, and monument wad erected to honor the great emperor. Numerous ancient burials are found in this area.
Avarga Toson lake local sanatorium
Steppe mineral water Sanatorium named “Avarga Toson”, and benefit healing waters of Avarga spring. Bathe in the Avarga Toson Lake where Chinggis Khan used to rest with his sons in the summer time. Spent whole day here.
Baldan Bereeven monastery ruin (the main temple is renewed) (74 km)
The monastery was established in 1784 by a Mongolian noble, Daichin Jonon Van Gombojav. Bereeven (Baldan Braibung) Khiid monastery used to house over 8000 Buddhist monks. It was the most significant religious center of the eastern part of Mongolia, which was also visited by thousands of Buryat pilgrims from the north.

Children’s Eco Club
Since 2008 we have been supporting five Eco clubs which are actively working in Khatgal and Khankh village of Khuvsgul province, Shinejinst soum center of Bayankhongor province, Gurvanbulag soum center of Bulgan province and Batshireet soum center of Khentii province. The core objective of the Eco clubs are to create awareness among children and teenagers on protection of nature, ensure their creative participation in related activities and assist them in acquiring further in-depth khowledge and education on ecological and environmental issues. Each Eco club has certain plan for implementing number of environmental care and eco-educational activities that our company, partners and our clients continually contribute.
“Nature and Theatre” Children’s Eco Club in the eastern Mongolia
Location: Batshireet soum, Khentii province
Brief introduction: Children’s Eco Club “Nature and Theatre” was founded in 2000 with the name “Och” at the initiative of local citizens and with involvement of 45 children. Later in 2004, the club was renamed as “Nature and Theatre” and with participation of its member-children has conducted theatrical performances for local community in order to contribute in nature protection and forest fire prevention efforts. Presently, about 50 pupils of the secondary school have been contributing their input in nature protection activities.
The core objective of the club is to create awareness among children and teenagers on protection of local nature, ensure their creative participation in related activities and assist them in acquiring further in-depth knowledge and education on ecological and environmental issues.
In 2009, the club has intensified its activities with the financial and management support of “Tour Mongolia” company and implemented the following:
– carried out awareness programs among 347 people on nature protection and forest fire prevention on a monthly basis;- organized the campaign “Clean environment” twice and collected waste along the bank of Egh river and delivered to the waste disposal facility;
– organized the children’s painting competitions titled Green nature, Winter color, Motherland, My favorite animal and awarded cash prizes, various stationery and books to winners;
– set up eco corner and installed billboards at the Information and Training Center under the Khan Knetii national park;
– conducted theater classes on Saturdays every week and gave theatrical performances such as “Vigilant wall, Khan Uul owners and Wish-gaining jewel” in order to spread awareness on nature and environmental protection;
– organized the quiz contest ‘Live nature’ twice;
– carried out the cognitive tour ‘Forest adventure’ twice involving 90 children in total;
– organized essay and poem contests on themes “Let’s protect our nature” and “My motherland” involving 129 children in total.

♥ The summer English training is named “Mongolian Culture in English”, which was organized by International Cultural Tourism association and Sustainable Tourism Development Center in Steppe Eco lodge in August 2010. The 10 children from the club and Khurkh bag studied without charging fees for the training, which is supported by Steppe Eco Camp. The children were studied with teachers and student from Buryat, Ulan-Ude, who introduced by local culture, history, and archeological sites. Children spend summer vacation, have improved their skills and benefit from this training.
♥ The “Anda” local training center has created in the Steppe Eco Camp by initiative of Tour Mongolia LLC and support of foreign donators & Steppe Eco Camp in July 2011. The project is aimed for improving livelihood of indigenous and develops the skills of local people. In this training center, local people can study to make handcrafts, learn from each other, cover for the special training and make the souvenirs for the tourist demand. The advantage of this training center, they can sell their handmade products to the tourists.
